Barcelona may be the perfect city. It’s an urban gem: compact, accessible, containing beautiful beaches as well as historic quarters, renovated sections that are tourist friendly without being blandly over commercialized. Quaint cafes, milk bars and tapas restaurants appear at every turn. It’s buildings, cathedrals and monuments are breathtaking. From medieval quarters of narrow passages, wooden doors, low arches and grand stone palaces and churches, to it’s modern museums and Gaudi’s eclectic masterpieces. It is easy to see how Barcelona provided unlimited inspiration for Picasso and Miro.
As for the food – what’s not to love? Chorizo to die for. Wine – ridiculously cheap and amazing. Need more be said?
It is a bicycler’s and pedestrian’s dream, and yet taxis are plentiful and cheap! Green spaces, walking and cycling paths sprawl fluidly throughout the city.
Barcelona is pure magic, from the depths of the Barri Gothic to the heights of the charming amusement park Tibidabo. We could live here in a heartbeat.
